A. National Disability Prevention & Rehabilitation Week
NDPR Week was being observed during July 17 – 23 of the year which coincide to birthday of Apolinario Mabini, the “Sublime Paralytic”. PFRD was working together with the working committee composed of NGO’s and GO’s.
B. Freedom Walk
The Person with Disability sector spearheaded by the Alyansa ng may Kapansananang Pinoy (AKAP-Pinoy) and PFRD together with a working committee composed of national government agencies, non-governmental office and civil society, is celebrating every June of the year the “Freedom Walk ” in observance of Independence Day.
C. Mobility Medical Mission
PFRD in cooperation of the Alabang Hills Village Senior’s Assn., Phil. Academy for Rehab. Medicine (PARM), Physician for Peace Medicine, and the Latter Day Saints of Charities (LDS) has conducted a Free Medical check-up, mobility assessment for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), 91 PWDs are the recipients of the mission.
D. Advisory Council for the Education of Children & Youth with Disabilities (ACECYD)
DepEd Order No. 77, s. 2011 created in Pursuant to Article 24, 2.d of the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities which states that all children shall have access to basic education, within the general educational system, to facilitate their effective education, the Salamanca Statement on Inclusive Education, and the United Nations Educational Scientific And Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Education for all (EFA).
Key Areas for Action:
1. Supporting research studies which shall take in data collection, related reports and studies on inclusive and special education;
2. Strategic planning which shall lead to a shortlist of consensus of priorities for action;
3. Agenda for action which shall serve as the framework for collaboration between DepEd and the disability sector and other stakeholders in providing education to children and youth with disabilities.
